Enrolling in Virtual/Hybrid learning

Thunder Bay Catholic recognizes that in-person learning is best for most students. Due to increased concern with the Omicron variant, we are aware that some families may wish to move to virtual learning for the remainder of the school year.

Students who were previously enrolled in virtual/hybrid learning prior to Christmas do not need to re-enroll in virtual/hybrid learning. The following process is for new requests for virtual/hybrid learning.

Please refer to the pertinent school division for enrolment information regarding virtual/hybrid learning:

For Kindergarten to Grade 6 Elementary students (move to virtual learning):

  • The ability to move to a virtual class is based on availability in the virtual class to accommodate additional students. Class cap sizes will be adhered to.
  • The move to virtual class is for the remainder of the school year until June 2022 (students will not be permitted to move back to a conventional in-person class until September 2022).
  • Families wishing to move to virtual learning must call St. Paul School at 683-8941 by noon, Tuesday, January 18th. Following this date, registrations into a virtual class will not be accepted.
  • New students enrolled into virtual will begin on Thursday, January, 20th.

For 7-8 Senior Elementary students (move to hybrid learning):

Students may wish to move to hybrid learning for the remainder of the school year.

Parents/Guardians and Students are to follow this process:

  • Students must opt for hybrid learning by contacting their school through e-mail by noon, Tuesday, January 18th.

  • New students enrolled into hybrid will begin on Thursday, January, 20th.
  • Students opting for hybrid learning will have the 1 time option to move back to in-person learning. Once a student has returned to in-person learning, they will not have the option to move back to hybrid learning.

For High School Students (move to hybrid Learning):

Remote Learning for the remainder of Semester 1 - January. 17-20.

Some students may wish to move to virtual learning for the remainder of Semester 1. This instruction will be provided asynchronously for the remaining days of class.

Parents/Guardians/Students are required to notify the school attendance secretary the details of their intention regarding remote learning or other absences. Parents/Guardians/Students are also required to notify their teachers via email of their plans for the last 4 days of school.

Students choosing remote learning must remain in remote learning for all semester 1 classes.

Enrolling in Hybrid Classes 9 - 12 - Semester 2

Some students may wish to move to Hybrid learning for the remainder of the school year. The availability of Hybrid course options is limited. A student requesting hybrid learning must take all hybrid classes for semester 2.

Parents/Guardians and Students are to follow this process:

  • Students must enroll in Hybrid learning by emailing the school account stpatrick@tbcschools.ca or stignatius@tbcschools.ca by noon, Monday, January 24th. A Vice Principal will contact you to make arrangements. In your email please include the student’s name and state the request for Hybrid Learning
  • Students start class on the first day of Semester 2, Tuesday, Feb.1st
  • Students enrolled in Hybrid learning will have the 1 time option to move back to in-person learning during the semester. Once a student has returned to in-person learning, they will not have the option to move back to Hybrid learning.
